The Bell ringers

We are over half way through the year, and here are reports of our activities:

The Striking Contest for the Beds Association took place on 5th June at Stagsden. This annual competition involves ringing non-stop for 5 minutes - neutral Judges mark the teams for perfection in timing and with NO FAULTS/mistakes! Every set of Church bells `feel' different. Our Ringers were - Helen, Barbara, Jo, Tom, Pat (Capt.) and Simon. The Teams were:- Bromham, Kempston, Bedford (St Andrews), Oakley, Sharnbrook, Goldington, and Elstow. We came 5th and the Judges comments were - we had a shaky start, no bad crunches, we had 29 faults.

The winners were Kempston (15 faults), the second team Bedford St Andrews (24 faults) will both represent us in the County Finals.

We must spend more time on Tuesday practice nights on perfecting our rhythm!

Outings: The one-day outing was on 8th May in Rutland, organised by Simon and Mel Sweeney. We had a delightful day in this beautiful County, easy to get to thus a reasonable start time!! We rang at five historic Churches, Uppingham: North Luffenham; Easton on the Hill - and finished with two in Stamford. Simon and Mel had found us a Coach House Inn in South Luffenham for a magnificent lunch. We ended with a Picnic at Ferry Meadows, Orton Waterville.

We look forward to our `long weekend' outing which Linda and Dermot Liggett have organised, in mid October. This is based around Pickering in Yorkshire North Riding, new territory for us!
